At the El Fenn Hotel, each of the 28 rooms features authentic Moroccan decor and carefully balances modern luxuries with the building’s original architecture. El Fenn also boasts immaculate courtyards, an expansive roof terrace and, most notably, a family of resident tortoises. Within walking distance to several key destinations, it is the perfect introduction to your trip.
The Majorelle Gardens are one of the most visited sites in Morocco, and are a must-see for any first-time traveler. It took 40 years for the original owner, French painter Jacques Majorelle, to create this stunning destination. In 1980, the gardens were bought by fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent. Spend the afternoon ambling along the paths and take in exotic plants, flowers and this vibrantly painted, art-deco designed building that serves as the focal point of the gardens.
The Beldi Country Club is also a hotel, but it is just as much fun to visit for the day. Have a traditional Moroccan lunch on the outdoor patio of the on-site restaurant, located next to a placid pool where guests can gaze out at the sprawling grounds. Afterwards, spend the afternoon touring the renowned rose gardens, which stretch for acres and are spectacular in the spring. Glassware is also made on the property, and visitors can mold and then bake their own pottery to take home as a souvenir.
To see the city of Marrakech from the ultimate vantage point, visit the Nomad restaurant for sunset cocktails and a delicious dinner. Request to be seated in one of the sumptuous booths that line the rooftop eatery, and enjoy 360-degree views of the city as the sun sets. The cuisine is upscale and authentic, described as ‘modern Moroccan’ and features new versions of traditional dishes as well as Moroccan twists on international dishes. There is a focus on seasonal, local fruits and vegetables and the food is fresh and delicious.
A luxury hotel and must-visit cocktail spot, La Mamounia is great fun to visit in the evening after a full day of activities. There are several cocktail options to choose from on the grounds, and each one is different from the last. Try Bar Churchill with its leather accents and wood panelling, and enjoy an aperitif or an after-dinner drink while you enjoy live music from a singer-piano duo that plays each evening.
