Halsey Schroeder has her mother to thank for many things, not the least of which is the inspiration for Halsbrook. Halsey grew up watching her mother carefully build her wardrobe - choosing beautiful pieces that would stand the test of time. Having acquired the same sense of style, Halsey saw a market that was not being reached. “Everything was too flashy and trendy.” And just like that, the Halsbrook idea was born. Within a few months of graduating from Harvard Business School, Halsey had a plan in place.
The company name, Halsbrook, was derived from Halsey and Millbrook, the town where Halsey spends her summers with her family. The site would be the ideal online destination for women interested in sophisticated, classically designed clothing and accessories. Halsey wanted "the shopping experience to be elegant and effortless from start to finish." This included everything from the hand-picked collections and styling advice to the warm customer service and beautiful packaging.
She built her team—a web designer from Argentina, a merchandising manager with more than 30 years experience, an expert stylist, just to name just a few—and after nine months working out of Halsey’s apartment the group moved to Halsbrook's blue-walled offices in downtown Manhattan and launched in September 2012.
