It’s hard to believe that the woman London’s Sunday Times called the Queen of Cashmere actually had two other careers before becoming a designer. After graduating with a degree in education, Belinda Robertson embarked in a first career in physical education, and a second career in telecommunications. It was during this second stint that she worked with cashmere designers, and she became enamored of the weaving process, believing she could bring a modern approach to an age-old craft. Robertson smartly worked for a number of internationally acclaimed fashion houses in order to learn the business before launching her own brand, Belinda Robertson, in 1992. Her designs, which feature luxury yarns in sumptuous colors, are beloved for their eclectic styling and updated shapes. Her label is sold and distributed in the United States, Asia, Australia and Europe, and her flagship store is in Edinburgh, Scotland.
